Ok, here I go with a pet peeve or two of mine.  I consider these tpe of sites a good way to get to know others in our industry, do some networking, share ideas, answer each other's questions, etc. I feel that in order to do so, members should share some basic info about themselves.  Yet so many members do not list their job and do not write anything under hobbies. Now, the hobbies block I find is a good place to write more details about what you do in aviation, where you work, etc. Maybe it needs a better title than hobbies.

If someone does not enter some basic info why would anyone want to start a dialogue with them or add them as friends?  Another gripe of mine is people who require you to be added as a friend in order to view their profile.  If I can't read something about someone first, why would I even consider being their friend?

I would say that, as the new members join, visit their profile. If the info is not there, ask them to post it. Some won't but I am sure most will if you express a genuine interest in them. I have met some of my friends this way! Some people have never joined a website... ever.... and may be a little nervous to get involved initially. Make them feel interesting and welcome and they will probably be more interested in getting involved.

So what do we do to encourage other members to add some info to their profile?  Should it be a requirement to join that a new member add some details?

David... I updated mine a little after I read this. My "hobbies" seem to be long-winded now, but I condensed it a lot! Cool

I left my personal interests in there, along with my professional information. I am a person as well as a technician and I hope to see both sides of others here, as well.

Well. I get to know this site only from Lufthansa friends. I love the site! Its for us! Its our site.. we......airmen,. our life in aviation, how we benefit from it, why we love the job and why we dont!

But honestly, I find the site more interesting when I realize that there are more opportunities waiting for me all over the countries. How? Thru invitations and recommendations of the members here. Why should I stuck up myself in this hot deserted place???

I have to agree with you. When I first found this site my first thought was that this could really help my career and I could make some friends in the industry. Its hard to make friends when you can't see the person's profile.
