What attracts you to an employer?
Posted On: 07/29/2007 12:43:27

As a manager at an MRO, I would like to pose a few questions.

What is most important to you when looking for employment?  Is it your base wages, time off, medical benefits, challenge of the job, geographic location, the name recognition of the employer, advancement opportunity or what?

What will attract your initial attention to a potential employer?

What would be the make or break deciding factor(s)?

What will definitely turn you off to an employer?

All input is welcome.

OK. Let's say that two places were paying the same $$ and the benefits were the ame.  What is the tie breaker?  Location?  Opportunity for advancement? How much training is offered? Type of equipment worked on? Something else?

I have to say STABILITY. If I were to leave my current job, I would want to work at a place I know would be there 10 or 20 years (or more)from now. Work environment is also important to me. Yes, pay is important, but personally I would accept a little less pay to work for someone who appreciates my skills and talents. You could make $150 K a year and that job would STILL SUCK if the people treat you like CRAP. Turnover rate is a pretty good indicator of how people are treated, as well as whether they are making a decent wage or not. Well, there's my 2 cents for ya.

I have to say, for the higher dollar equipment....it is the same as the real estate cliche of location, location, location.  I want Money, Money, Money.  I am both a pilot and an A&P.  I left my most recent full time company because he only wanted to pay me a lousy $45k to do both his maintenance and fly copilot.   I am now flyig mostly contract and doing maintenance making on average $350 per day and staying busy 2/3 rds of the month.  I am the one pushing the production out of the door putting my certificate on the line.  I have done hiring before and I understand both sides.  If you underpay you WILL HAVE HIGH TURNOVER which will cost you in training and loss of production as well as incresed work on the management side of the house to continually hire to keep positions filled.

For me, it is the insurance and pay. I also like the days off!

The stability of the company is extremely important too. There are far too many start up airlines.
