I've been back in Alaska now for almost 4 months working for Evergreen Helicopters. I'm loving Anchorage, and even more loving my job! I'm about to head out for a week into the field for the first time ever!!! Can you say snowboarding? :-) Anyways, that's about it, work and home. Hope y'all are doing as well as I am.
Lots of things have been happening lately. After whining and complaining about how much I hate working on Commercial Jets. And how I hate my current work place, I have finally done something about it. Do you know how hard it is to find an A&P that has helicopter experience? Pretty tough, at least with the kind of experience that most helicopter companies are asking for. Now do you know how hard it is to find an A&P with helicopter experience, that wants to move to AK? Damned near impossible!!! Which is how I landed my latest venture with Evergreen Helicopters in Anchorage, AK. I had been interested in relocating back to AK, at least temporarily to be by my family. So the first place I looked into was Evergreen. They are huge, not limited to just heli's, and I had heard great things about the company from a pilot that had left Coastal to work for Evergreen in Anchorage. After I had found out who I needed to talk to, I submitted my resume, hoping for the best. Ten, TEN minutes! after hitting the send button on yahoo, I got a call from Evergreen's Corporate Recruiter, Fred. He complimented me on my resume. Letting me know the layout was well streamlined, and easy to follow (thank you Monster.com!). He asked a few questions, and I asked him to email me an app. I faxed the app in the following day, and emailed Fred to make sure he got it. Being Labor Day weekend, I wasn't alarmed when I hadn't heard from him before the weekend. When I hadn't heard from him by Tuesday afternoon, I called Fred to see what was happening with my application. He told me all he needed was to know what day was good for me to fly up to Anchorage for an interview. They bought me a ticket out of Orlando up to Anchorage. For more on that weekend you can check out my blog on myspace http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog&Mytoken=27BAB6C3-0FA9-4096-99555AB06D8B82C110263882 titled "The Shortest Long Weekend Ever!" Basically, the guy hired me on the spot as a field mech out of Anchorage. I have two years exp on each of the heli's they operate, I'm from Alaska, so I know what to expect, I'm single and responsibility free, so I can travel with absolutely no advance notice. All in all, I'm a perfect fit for this company, and they snapped me up before anyone else could (smart move ) I have already signed my offer letter, and filled out my new hire paperwork. All that remains is to come up with the $3000 needed to get me and my car home

After 4 months of struggling to gain respect in my current workplace, I've finally found it. Those of you who have read my previous blogs know that I've been fed up with work, and the treatment that came with it. The manager who has given me the worst of it, has eased up. He has also started trusting me with more, and more complicated projects. As well as with training newer people on some things. The engines once reserved for the "A" team, and the only part of these big aircraft I've ever had any interest in, have been opened up to me. The last few weeks this man has done a complete turn around in his attitude towards me :-) Extra OT usually only given to few, who like to work, and who the manager trusts, has also been made available to me. The last three weeks have flown by. I used to stand around alot waiting for work, sometimes not being given any. For the past few weeks I've been busting my butt, all day, every day. The others I have had problems with have also come around. Projects are no longer taken from me and done for me. I'm told to "do it", rather than being told to, "tell ____ to do it". It feels good knowing that I've finally earned what I've been striving to get since I started. It feels good coming home tired every day, knowing I've put in a hard day's work. I haven't worked this hard since my last job. And once again, it feels good
I really hate working on large aircraft. I work on 727's and 737's, right now, and I'm really missing helicopters :-(

I'm bored. Currently out of work, and it's Friday! I'm hoping I get paid today. I've been back in Clearwater for about three weeks now. Mostly I've been taking it easy. I worked a little bit with Jody at Arcair. He actually offered me a job right of the jet in Tampa. I took it...kinda. I was never officially on payroll. Now Arcair has been sold, and Jody thinks he's out of a job. So I'm on the lookout for a new job. I'll probably try Avantair and the Sheriffs station. The sheriffs because I really like working on heli's, and that's really the only place around here for helicopter work. Avantair pays well I've heard. Might be a good place to build my bank account back up. Moving is EXPENSIVE! If I can't find a job I like, I'll probably head north to Crestview. I updated my resume on Monster the other day. The next morning I had two calls about potential job openings. The great thing about mechanic shortages? The jobs find you. All you have to do is keep an updated resume online, and be open to relocation.
