Due to all the recent inspections and aircraft grounding, should passengers be afraid to fly?

No, just the opposite. With aircraft being grounded and alot of recent inspections, that means people are doing their jobs and there are safer aircraft in the air.

Personally I am not afraid to fly but I can certainly understand people that are afraid.

Airplanes are basically large aluminum tubes that are heavier than air yet are flying at 30.000 feet above the ground by the grace of some thrust.
