ASA test prep software general airframe and powerplant 08 is a good start, it will get you ready for the real test. Once you start scoring in the high 80's consistantly, you are ready. And at $90 a wack for the real test, the less likely you want to take it any more times than you have to. The software cost anywhere from $95-$125 depending on where you get it. As for which books, I would go with the JeppesenSeries, as it has a complete interlocking leaning system, testbook, workbook, and testguide. The other book you need to get is the A&P Bible the AC43.13-1b/2a (MAKE SURE YOU GET THE -1B/2A EDITION AS SOME PEOPLE WILL STILL TRY TO SELL YOU THE OLD AND OUTDATED-1A).
That should be a good starting point. I do most of my book shopping at amtbooks.com, but sometimes amazon runs a good deal. Shop around and find who offers the best deal.
