Moved back to Alaska(woohoo!) Wasn't able to get on track with getting my A&P right away, so now I am pulling Executive security for Conoco Phillips 12hrs a day 2wks on and 2wks off, kinda nice and gets the bills payed but thats about it, was wondering if someone could get me in contact with someone in the Anchorage, Alaska area that will hire someone with over 10 1/2 yrs H-60 experience and 4months T-45 Jet experience without having my A&P yet and williing to work at a lower rate then rated mechanics while doing the apprenticeship until I get my A&P.

Have you tried Evergreen? They have a helicopter division and you can work under their repair certificate for the company. They probly won't have Blackhawks but they will appreciate your helicopter experience.
Good Luck.

Have you found a job yet? Have you tried Pegasus Aircraft? They are in Anchorage and accept exceptional aspiring mechanics without their A&P (former military) It's not heli work, but they help military people get their A&P if they are qualified.

Check with lear seigler on FT. Wainwright I dont have the number but gimmie a call and I will have it in the morning 353-6480 I'm in the hangar where they work. you should probably be looking for military contractors  since they are not required to fall under FAA jurisdiction. (At least to my understanding) Lear is a national company and has Uh- 60 and CH-47 repair stations everywhere.

I don't know anything about Alaska except that it gets freakin' cold up there! If there are any Part 145 Repair Stations up there, they are only required to keep a certain percentage of Cetificated A&P's, the rest can work under the existing A&P's.

Your time on H-60's is both stellar and commendable, I have the utmost respect for you (I have 12 years on them, myself). The biggest thing employers look at when desiring an A&P (regardless of experience level in the field) over someone with your experience with out the certs, right out of the military, is training on FAA regulations and the required paperwork and logbook entries. This is the biggest drawback for people exiting the military, as violations to the FAA regs are unforgivable, even if it was an honest mistake. Even the logbook entries have a specific format that must be adhered to. If you hear any different from anyone else, they just haven't been caught yet!

Buy a 2008 FAR for AMT's and begin by studying FAR Part 43, FAR Part 65, FAR Part 91, and FAR Part 145 to start. This will help if you can talk about these regs during the interview process without the A&P certs. You may also want to check out some of the books available on the market like "FAR's for Dummies" and Jeppesen has one just for inspections and logbook entries.

Good luck! Your current skills will be rewarded!!!!

Man, best of luck in your job search. I have a Powerplant license and 20 years in aircraft maintenance. 98% of these companies will not even look at my qualifications because I do not have a Airframe license. Ain't that a crock!
