Lots of things have been happening lately. After whining and complaining about how much I hate working on Commercial Jets. And how I hate my current work place, I have finally done something about it.
Do you know how hard it is to find an A&P that has helicopter experience? Pretty tough, at least with the kind of experience that most helicopter companies are asking for.
Now do you know how hard it is to find an A&P with helicopter experience, that wants to move to AK? Damned near impossible!!!
Which is how I landed my latest venture with Evergreen Helicopters in Anchorage, AK.
I had been interested in relocating back to AK, at least temporarily to be by my family. So the first place I looked into was Evergreen. They are huge, not limited to just heli's, and I had heard great things about the company from a pilot that had left Coastal to work for Evergreen in Anchorage.
After I had found out who I needed to talk to, I submitted my resume, hoping for the best. Ten, TEN minutes! after hitting the send button on yahoo, I got a call from Evergreen's Corporate Recruiter, Fred. He complimented me on my resume. Letting me know the layout was well streamlined, and easy to follow (thank you Monster.com!). He asked a few questions, and I asked him to email me an app.
I faxed the app in the following day, and emailed Fred to make sure he got it. Being Labor Day weekend, I wasn't alarmed when I hadn't heard from him before the weekend. When I hadn't heard from him by Tuesday afternoon, I called Fred to see what was happening with my application.
He told me all he needed was to know what day was good for me to fly up to Anchorage for an interview. They bought me a ticket out of Orlando up to Anchorage.

Basically, the guy hired me on the spot as a field mech out of Anchorage. I have two years exp on each of the heli's they operate, I'm from Alaska, so I know what to expect, I'm single and responsibility free, so I can travel with absolutely no advance notice. All in all, I'm a perfect fit for this company, and they snapped me up before anyone else could (smart move
) I have already signed my offer letter, and filled out my new hire paperwork. All that remains is to come up with the $3000 needed to get me and my car home
